The most common mistakes when working with a nail drill – how to avoid them?
An e-file manicure is the most popular service performed in nail salons, and bits are one of the most important tools in a technician's work, as they are present at almost every stage of the manicure. The most common mistakes in an e-file manicure:
1. The wrong choice of bit type, grit or cut.
One bit works well for hybrid polish, another for hard acrylic nails. If we use cuts that are too gentle to remove acrylic, it may not only take ages but also make it much easier to burn the client. On the other hand, too aggressive a grit of diamond bits can tear or nick the cuticles. The best solution is to use bits marked from yellow to blue.
2. Using an underpowered nail drill.
Such a rotary device has its limits, which we simply can't get around. This is especially noticeable when working at very low or very high speeds. Remember that not all rotations are equal, and even if you see someone working on cuticles at 10,000 rpm, on another drill that might be 15,000. You have to learn to get a feel for the drill you're working on.
3. Using bits at the wrong angle.
Remember that the bit must not gouge the nail plate. Each bit shape should be used in a different way. You'll hold a truncated cone differently than a teardrop. If you don't yet have a feel for the angle at which to hold a bit, try our bits with a non-cutting (safe) top. This way you'll protect the cuticles from nicks.
4. Lack of stability and support.
Beginners often work "in the air", which makes holes in the nail because they don't have the right feel. Here's a simple tip: rest the little finger of your working hand against the finger you're currently working on. This will give you the right stability and control.

Removing old product from a single nail takes an experienced technician about 30 seconds, and thoroughly working the cuticles and preparing the plate is also a matter of a few minutes. The nail drill is a wonderful device, but you have to be careful with it. Unskilled work can irreversibly destroy the matrix.
