Mistakes in E-file Manicure
Surely each of us, at the start of our career as a technician, has faced a situation where, for example, the hybrid polish wouldn't hold, the gel lifted, and while removing the styling you noticed lots of air bubbles, or you accidentally nicked the client with a bit, or during filing the client practically "pulled her hand away", and so on. Nothing but unpleasant situations, right? Well… nobody likes such moments. We'd bet that each time you almost tore your hair out and wondered: "what am I doing wrong?" Well, there can be many reasons. In today's post we'll try to look at all sorts of mistakes made while preparing the nail that all technicians happen to make.
1. Not removing the epidermis
Pushing the epidermis back with a stick won't do the job. In many cases it can end badly. What happens when we do this?
Not removing the epidermis from the nail plate means that applying any product over it can cause numerous air bubbles. This is because the cuticles are much softer than the nail and "work" constantly, so the product simply won't hold on them. In addition, flooding the cuticles with any product can result in irritation, a rash and even a severe allergic reaction.
So if we want to avoid this problem, we should use a nail drill and the right bit after all. Which one works best? Cylinder and cone shapes are the specialists for this kind of task!
2. Incorrect filing of the cuticles
Filing the cuticles is a very important part of preparing the plate for new styling. We must remember that any tool used incorrectly can cause more or less damage.
The most important thing is to hold the bit at the right angle. This not only gives us a better chance of reaching deeper areas under the folds, but also keeps us from hurting the client.
3. Damaging the matrix
Besides the wrong working angle, you should pay attention to how much force you use with the bits. Our pressure and the reach within which we operate these tools matter too.
Most cuticle bits, whose job is to clean the so-called "pocket", are sharply pointed — for example a teardrop or a needle. That's why our work shouldn't interfere too much with these sensitive areas.
What can too much pressure with these tools lead to? If we use really strong force, we can damage the matrix — for example the nail may grow back deformed, wavy or at a greatly slowed pace. Damage to the matrix is usually also accompanied by a hematoma under the nail. In such cases, a consultation with a podiatrist or dermatologist is already required.
Whether you're a beginner or an advanced technician, bits should be chosen carefully.
By following these points, you shouldn't have problems with safe and attractive work. Also remember that tools should always be disinfected and sterilized. Clients' safety should always come first!
